ABSTRACT
This is the first report of Lutjanus johnii (Perciformes: Lutjanidae) from Korea. A single specimen (592 mm in standard length) was collected by a one-pair trawl from the coastal waters of Jejudo Island on 12 December, 2023. This species is characterized by having scales on back parallel to lateral line, large black spot on the upper side, vomerine teeth in a cresecntic band without a medial posterior extension, and tongue with a patch of fine granular teeth. Based on the NFRDI (2008), we follow it’s Korean name, “Jo-ni-toong-dom”.
